Databases and database problems and errors
  1. Database connection error. Could not initiate communication with the server
This error is caused when you do not have permission to access the database from outside the server hosting the database or the database does not accept remote connections. Contact your hosting company and ask them to allow remote connections to your database
    [Back to top]
  2. My remote SQL Server or MySQL database server does not allow remote connections can I still use easyGen?
YES, but if you need a database you will need to use Access, if you need to use MySQL or SQL server easyGen must be able to connect to the remote database server in order to upload the database fields required by your project. Database server hosts occasionally prevent remote access for security reasons, ask your host to allow access from your machine for a limited period of time while you export your easyGen project or use a different database server host that does allow remote connections or use an Access database
    [Back to top]
  3. I don't have a database, can I still use easyGen
Yes, easyGen will create an Access database that you can use for your project. See Set Up your Data connection
    [Back to top]
  4. Does easyGen create the database
easyGen will create an Access database see http://www.easygen.com/faq/index.php?p=default&cat=1#a60

A SQL database is something that is installed on a server or computer, the computer administrator or service provider will create you a database for you to use within the database software. a new database is an empty shell and contains no information, easyGen will then build the database structure for you and the web pages so you can add information to the database
    [Back to top]

  5. How do I set up a database
There are several types of databases people will use for web applications. The most popular is MySQL. All SQL databases work in a similar way, as they are set up on a server. This can be a web server, network server or even your own PC.

If you are wanting to connect your web pages to a database so people can access it via the internet you will need to have your database online. Typically this would be a SQL type database but for small application you could use Access.

For a SQL database your service provider will set this up for you and provide your with detail of how to connect. If you want to use an Access database you will need a to be hosted on a NT server and create your web pages in ASP. Ask your service provider to create you a folder called db where you can store your database and ask them to give it read/write privileges. NOTE: An online Access database is also less secure than a SQL database.

By far the easiest way to set up an online database is to use a service provider like ourselves. We will set up a PHP website and a MySQL database, ready for you to use with easyGen. See www.easygen.com/hosting for more information
    [Back to top]

  6. I don't have a database set up yet, can I still test easyGen
Yes, easyGen will create an Access database that you can use to create your project. Set Up your Data connection or you can try our MySQL test database, see http://www.easygen.com/help/test_db/
    [Back to top]
  7. I want to use MySQL on my computer, how do I install it
NOTE: to use a local MySQL database you must be running one of the following operating systems with IIS installed
    • Windows 2000
    • Windows Server
    • Windows NT
    • Windows XP PRO (will not work with Windows XP Home Edition)
To install the MySQL database on your PC you will need to first download MySQL from http://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/MySQL-4.1/mysql-4.1.7-win.zip/from/pick

Then see the install instructions http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Windows_start_command_line.html

You may also find this admin program useful to help you configure and use the MySQL database. http://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/MySQLAdministrationSuite/mysql-administrator-1.0.17-win.msi/from/pick

NOTE: If you want to run PHP or ASP files on your computer you will need to be using Windows XP PRO, 2000 or NT and have IIS installed.

  8. I'm having problems connecting to my MySQL or SQL server database
Use our test database and see if you can connect to that http://www.easygen.com/help/test_db/ if you can you need to check the settings to your other database and make sure you have remote privileges, your database administrator will be able to help you. If you can't connect to our test database you have a connection problem with your computer, maybe you are behind a firewall or proxy server or maybe your internet connection is down.

  9. Databases in general and overview

    Databases

A database is a software application or enviroment that is designed to store information. Over the years databases have evolved from nothing more than a text file to very powerful storage tools. There are many different types of databases and all have there own unique good and bad points. For online web application the most popular type of database is called a SQL (see-quill). Microsoft’s SQLserver and Oracle are the 2 favored by corporates but these are very expensive and in most cases have far more features than the user requires.

    SQL

The most popular SQL database is called MySQL, it doesn’t have all the advanced features found in Oracle and SQLserver but it is more than powerful enough to suit most users needs and it’s free. However if you are wanting to use a MySQL database hosted on a web server you will need to pay for the hosting of the database.

For people who have little or no computer skills we would advise they use a hosted database solution, mainly because the hosting company will set up your database for you and then just tell you how to connect to your database (server – username – password – database name) and this is the only bit of information easyGen needs to start building your database. You can set up a PHP web site and MySQL database at http://www.easygen.com/hosting/

NOTE: A SQL database is a software environment that has to be installed on a server. You can't just create a database of your choice, the software (MySQL, SQLserver, Oracle, etc) needs to be installed on the server you are going to use. If you don't have a host that offers a SQL database or don't want to pay for a SQL database to be hosted, use the Access database that comes with easyGen.

    Access

You can also use the Access database that comes with easyGen, this can be found in your easyGen folder under access db, (C:/Program Files/Symbiant/easyGen 2/access db).

Access is a Microsoft software package but you can build and store information in an Access database without the need to buy or use the Access program. Access can only be used with ASP and is ideal for low user sites. However it’s not as robust as a SQL database and also not as secure. An experienced hacker could easily tap in to an online Access database. But if your not storing sensitive data and don’t expect more than 10 people trying to access the database at the same time it is a good low cost choice. Also if you want to create your own application, such as on a PC or Intranet, this again is a good choice.

Using an Access database is the same as any other database except you are working with a file rather than a server. If you have a copy of Access you can simply create a new Access mdb file to link your project to, if you don't we supply a blank access database file you can use. However, there is an important differance to remember when exporting projects that use an Access database. Because the Access database is a file, it needs to be exported with your project, easyGen will manage all this for you and export the database to your designated web server or folder in a directory called ds. All you need to do is set the permission of this directory to allow full read and write privilages for internet guest users (IUSER), so Windows knows to allow data entered on your web site to update the database. For instructions on how to do this, see http://www.easygen.com/faq/index.php?p=default&cat=10#a34.

Experienced computer users can set up SQL databases on their own PC or server, such users can find instruction on how to do this from the provider of the database they wish to use. See page 18 of the user manual, Using Your Own PC to run ASP or PHP pages, for more on that topic.

As a general rule the following databases use these programming languages with easyGen.

    AccessASP

    SQLserverASP

MySQLPHP or (ASP with ODBC module)

    OracleASP

    OLE or ODBC databasesASP

We will be bringing out new database connectors for both ASP and PHP over the next few months. But as a rule for PHP use MySQL and for all other databases use ASP.

MySQL
  1. Connection failed. database returned error
Generally there are 3 main possible problems users have with databases,

1 A poorly configured DNS server which is the most likely cause of a connection failed, you can fix this by using the IP address of the server that hosts your database.

2 You are not using the correct connection details or the user you are trying to access with does not have the required permissions.

3 Your MySQL databases does not have remote access.

To resolve the above please contact the company who hosts your MySQL database and ask them what the problem is and how to resolve it.

As a test you can connect to our demo MySQL database and if you can connect to that you will have proof the problem is with your current host. http://www.easygen.com/help/test_db/

If your current host is unable to offer you a suitable MySQL connection or is unable to rectify your problem we suggest finding a new service provider, see http://www.easygen.com/hosting/
    [Back to top]

  2. When trying to connect to MySQL using the Data Source Manager I get a message stating that the connection was refused

If you are having problems connecting to your database with the Data Source Manager first make sure the user details you are using have full permissions (Modify, Update) and have remote access which is % in the host settings for that user and database.

    COMMON PROBLEMS and Errors:-

    • If it says 'No such host known' it is likely the server name is incorrect (try connecting via the IP address)
    • If it says 'could not initiate communication with the server' it is likely the user details are incorrect.
    • If it says 'Access denied .....' you either don't have permission to access the database or the database name is wrong.

    LAN or Network

If you are trying to connect to a MySQL database over a LAN, you might need to check the MySQL web site to see if there are any special connection details you require (i.e you must use the IP address, computer name, 'localhost', etc.)

  3. Database connection error. I have checked that my host allows remote connections but I still cannot connect!
When using a MySQL database quite often your host has to add your IP address to a list of IP addresses that MySQL will allow to connect to it. You may need to ask your host to add your IP address to this list or allow you to connect from any IP "%" (They need to enter a percent sign as your IP). You should also be aware that some ISP's use proxy servers so your IP address may not be the same each time you connect to the internet, if this is the case you will need to either update the connection details in easyGen each time you want to export your project or contact your ISP and MySQL host and try and get them to come to some kind of arrangement
    [Back to top]
  4. How do I install MySQL on my computer / PC
To install the MySQL database on your PC you will need to first download MySQL from http://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/MySQL-4.1/mysql-4.1.7-win.zip/from/pick

  2. What are the requirements to run easyGen?
The main requirement is that you have .NET 1.1 installed. Microsoft has created a useful document to ensure your system is capable of running .NET applications: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa569264.aspx
    [Back to top]
  3. Why do I need the .NET framework and What is it?
easyGen uses advanced features to create the scripts it outputs, to make the program more efficient it uses the Microsoft .NET framework. Most new computers using the XP operating system will have this already installed, older operating systems may already have it installed if you have selected it from the windows update site. The .NET framework is a Microsoft enhancement that uses new and advanced features for web development.

You can install the framework by running Windows Update

Registering
  1. I purchased easyGen on CD (boxed) and am having problems
If you purchased the CD version of easyGen, you may need to install Service Pack 2

If you are experiencing any problems, in registering or opening projects, or starting to use easyGen for the first time. Also if you are on a network or are unable to download any updates install Service Pack 2

Also make sure you are connected to the internet and then make sure any firewall software you have installed allows easyGen access.

  2. when I try to register my copy it says there is no internet connection
You must make sure you have a open internet connection before you start easyGen. Also make sure any firewall you have allows easyGen access to the internet
    [Back to top]
  3. When I click the Register button nothing happens!
The problem is with your Internet Explorer settings. The easiest way to resolve this issue is to visit the link below:

    http://www.easygen.com/formtest/?testCode=Y35MX45776

Click the [Test] button, when Internet Explorer informs you of the form submission, check the box to always allow form submissions and OK the submission.

Then load easyGen and try registering again.

  4. How do I register my copy of easyGen
First you need to purchase a license from http://www.easygen.com/purchase/ and you will be issued with a product serial/license number (if you have purchased the CD the serial/license number is on the back of the CD case.

To register and unlock your copy of easyGen first make sure you have an open Internet connection, then open easyGen, on the start page click on Register easyGen And fill in the online form, entering your License/serial number in to the 3 box's at the top of the page.

When you have done this your copy of easyGen will ask you if you want to update your copy, click yes and easyGen will download and install all the new updates. Make sure your copy of easyGen closes before downloading the updates. If your computer fails to download all the updates you can run Check for Updates found in the Help menu. Make sure you keep running this until it says there are no more updates.

  5. I can't see the start page
This typically happens with CD copies. You can either download the latest copy from our web site or follow these simple instructions. Close down your copy of easyGen.
    1. Open the Run box found in the Start Menu.
    2. Type regsvr32 mshtml then click on OK
you should now get a confirmation message. When you restart easyGen you should now see the start page and be able to register your copy.

  6. Why do I need to register easyGen
Unregistered copies of easyGen will not export projects. You can export the evalution page so you can test easyGen and see how it works but this facility stops after 14 days. The free downloads are full working versions except for the export function, when you register your copy the export function is unlocked. So you can build projects within easyGen but will not be able to create the scripts (web pages) or databases until you purchase a license and register your copy.

Connecting to a database
  1. How Do I Connect To My Database
    Please see http://www.easygen.com/help/test_db/

  2. The database connection wizard asks me for "server" what does this mean

Your database will be hosted on a server, this server will have a name or a IP address which identifies it over the Internet. It is it's address so your applications know where to find your database.

For instance our test server is called ns1.symshop.com and has a IP address of 213.129.69.61 so you could enter either of these to connect to our server.

Ask you hosting company for either the name of the server or the IP address of the server your database is hosted on.

If your database is hosted on your own pc you would enter localhost for MySQL and (local) for SQL Server
    [Back to top]

  3. Connecting to a MySQL database on My PC
Firstly, to connect to a local MySQL database you must be running one of the following operating systems with IIS installed
    • Windows 2000
    • Windows Server
    • Windows NT
    • Windows XP PRO (will not work with Windows XP Home Edition)
Usually your server will be called "localhost" and have a IP address of 127.0.0.1 however on some set-ups this may not work so you will need to address the computer by it's name or it's allocated IP address. (see the system link in windows control panel - full computer name). To find out the allocated IP address open a dos prompt and type ping computername, so if your computer is called oemcomputer type ping oemcomputer this will return a IP address something like 198.168.0.1 Whatever is returned is your computers IP address.
Where easyGen asks you for the server where your MySQL is first try localhost if that fails try your computer name and lastly the IP returned from a ping. If non of the above work the chances are you have not got your system configured correctly.

Upgrading easyGen
  1. The updater fails to download updates or just hangs
Please download the latest updater here

Extract the contents of the zip file to your easyGen directory (this is normally c:\Program Files\Symbiant\easyGen 2.3)

Please note this updater is for easyGen 2.3 only, DO NOT use it with a different version of easyGen.

  2. How do I upgrade to the latest version of easyGen or re-install easyGen
If possible first un-register your license (From the Help menu click on About easyGen then click on Un-register) if you have not yet registered you do not need to do this.
Download the latest version of easyGen from the download URL http://www.easygen.com/download. Then remove your current version via windows add/remove programs Windows Start Menu > Control panel > Add and Remove Programs

Now you can install the latest version of easyGen

To keep your copy of easyGen up to date please use the "Check for Updates" link found in the Help Menu. Help > Check For Updates.

  3. The updater finds updates but they don't install!
If the update fails it is often down to network or firewall settings. You must ensure that the updater has full internet access and file system privileges.

If you continue to have problems with the updater please remove your current version of easygen and install the latest version, see How do I upgrade easyGen or re-install it above
    [Back to top]

  4. The updater has given an error
If the updater fails on a file and continues to fail on the same file you will need to clear the downloaded files so the updater can start again. This is a simple task see the video, Click Here
    [Back to top]
  5. What happens if I find a bug
easyGen has been thoroughly tested but changes to the Microsoft operating system or .NET may cause new errors, we are constantly checking for potential problems and in part rely on our users to inform us of problems which can be reported online via the easyTrack link from the start page. We then solve the issue and create a patch which is automatically installed by registered copies of easyGen. For this function to work correctly it is important that your computer is connected to the internet when you open easyGen and click on the check for updates option in the help menu.

using web pages and Databases on the Internet
  1. How do I use PHP or ASP pages
PHP and ASP pages are like any other web pages except they are scripts and create the page you see dynamically when your browser visits the web site. To view and run ASP or PHP web pages your web site needs to be able to run these pages. Most web site will run either ASP or PHP and you can read more about these languages HERE

If you you haven't got a website we can provide you with a PHP website and an online MySQL database see HERE for more.

  2. What is an online database and how to I get one
An online database is exactly how it sounds, it's a database that resides on a web server and is connected to the Internet. These databases link in to your web pages so you can store information and retrieve it. Many websites now have the whole of there content stored in a database, you can see examples of these on our Resources page There are several different types of databases you can use online see HERE for more information about Databases.

If you you haven't got a website we can provide you with a PHP website and an online MySQL database see HERE for more.

Programming Languages ASP and PHP
  1. About ASP and PHP
    Programming Languages ASP and PHP

What’s the difference between ASP and PHP? Well, besides the obvious which is they are two different languages, the main difference is, it depends on what type of server you are going to host your website on. If you are being hosted on a UNIX server then you want to use PHP, if your webserver is Windows based (NT server) use ASP. Your hosting company will tell you which language you should use.

People building applications, which will be run on a PC or home network, will again choose ASP as the chances are it will be a Windows operating system you are using.

PHP is also the newer of the two languages and many programmers now prefer it, for many different reasons. Because we only run UNIX servers all our websites use PHP and MySQL databases, including all the easyGen ones. So when you purchase your easyGen and your license is issued and emailed to you, that’s PHP. But it should also be said that it could also be done in ASP.

At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference and the type of server you’re being hosted on. Because NT servers have a reputation for being a little temperamental and always needing a reboot many people prefer to be hosted on UNIX servers as they are more reliable and have a higher up time rate. It is for this reason we only host on UNIX servers
    [Back to top]

  2. How do I get a website that will run ASP or PHP
There are many hosting companies on the internet, and all offer various deals. Some are more reliable than others and some of the cheaper ones offer a reduced quality service due to the large volume of sites they will load on to one server. This can cause problems with connecting and down time.

We put a maximum of 100 sites on our servers, thus ensuring fast connections and reliability. We also only use UNIX servers as they are more robust than NT. So if you are looking for a PHP and MySQL site we can help you, see http://www.easygen.com/hosting/ for more details.

  3. Can I run ASP and PHP on my PC
If you have Windows XP pro, Windows 2000 or windows NT and have IIS running (see your operating system help files) then yes you can run ASP and PHP web pages on your PC. For PHP you will need to install the PHP environment, see the easyGen user manual,

ASP runs as standard on the above operating systems if you have installed IIS from the O/S set up disk
    [Back to top]

General
  1. My server dosn't support ASP/PHP can I still use easyGen?
Yes you can - easyGen ships with ASP and PHP as standard so works on all types of servers. Some free web hosting companies may not allow web scripts but this is unusual ask your host which option to use
    [Back to top]
  2. Lost layout of easyGen, can't find action builder, properties inspector, project explorer. Reset easyGen layout

If you have closed one of the side windows and would like it back go to View from the main menu and select the item. If this fails to work then you will need to reset the layout, to do this follow the below instructions

Using Windows Explorer you need to find a folder called "IsolatedStorage" which will probably be at this path
    C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Application Data\IsolatedStorage

and then delete all the contents of that folder so it is empty, NOTE do not delete the folder "IsolatedStorage" just it's contents..

This will reset easyGens windows layout

If you can not see the Local Settings folder you will need to change your settings in Windows Explorer to show hidden files, to do this from the main menu in explorer. Tools > Folder Options then choose the View tab and check the radio button for Show hidden files and folders

  2. Is there any training for easyGen
    Yes, see our Training Centre
License issues, licensing and moving your license
  1. What does the easyGen user license allow ?
each easyGen license allows the software to be used on one computer at a time.
You can however create as many web sites or web applications as you wish and of any size. This can also be for third parties and they are all royalty free.
So web developers are free to use easyGen at no further cost other than the purchase of just 1 standard license

  2. What happens if I have 2 or more computers
You can either purchase a license for each machine or un-register a copy (Help > About easyGen > Un-Register) and register the copy on the other computer. You can register and un-register as many times as you like. But you will not be able to have 2 copies registered with the same license at the same time.

So if you have a home PC and work PC and forget to unregister one of them, you will not be able to register and use the other copy.

  3. What do I do if I need to format or change my hard drive or change, upgrade motherboard or components or re-install windows
before you format your hard drive or make any hardware upgrade to your PC or re-install windows you must un-register your copy of easyGen first. (Help > About easyGen > Un-Register). Then after you re-install your software you can re-register your copy.
  4. What do I do if I get a new computer?
Just un-register your copy (Help > About easyGen > Un-Register) and re-install easygen on your new coputer an then re-register
    [Back to top]
  5. Un-registering my license
The easyGen license is fixed to the computer your register it on. This is an unfortunate precaution we need to take to avoid pirating of the software. If you are behind a Firewall and or Proxy server, you will need to give access to easyGen to allow it to un-register. If you can not allow access we advise you do not install unless you are prepared to lose that license. (Firewalls and Proxy servers are usually on corporate networks and not home PCs but many home PCs now have software firewalls) You will also need access to the Internet to register and un-register.

To un-register your license, open easyGen and from the Help menu item click on About easyGen and then Un-register in the about box (Help > About easyGen > Un-Register) .

To see the training video on un-registering go to http://www.easygen.com/Training_Centre/un-register.htm

  6. My License has become invalid
There are several reason why you license may have become invalid see the list below to find the solution.

If you have not upgraded your computer or got your license on another PC then first try to re-register. You can always re-register on the last PC your computer was registered on providing you have not upgraded that PC.

Have you upgraded your PC or moved it from another PC without first un-registering ?
As our FAQ, Training videos and the email you were sent when you registered clearly explains. You need to Un-register the easyGen license before you do this. You will now need to release your license see ( What Happens if I fail to un-register my license and need it re-setting) or install easygen on the last PC it was registered on, register and then un-register the license.

  7. What Happens if I fail to un-register my license and need it re-setting
We now allow you 5 free registers to cover accidental loss such as a crash. Please do not waste these, un-register when possible to keep your 5 accidental losses.
If you go beyond your 5 free installs you will need to pay for a reset. This is a security issue to stop our licenses being abused, we believe 5 accidental losses should cover even the most unlucky of users.
our EXPRESS service has a guaranteed reset in 5 minutes. For the express service we charge £11.99. To use the EXPRESS reset service go to http://www.easygen.com/release/

  8. Do you offer licensing deals for multi-users
Yes, you can purchase multi user licenses for easyGen, for prices see http://www.easygen.com/purchase/mlicense.php
    [
  9. Can I transfer my license to another person or company?
No, ownership of the easyGen user license is non transferable.
error 12014
  1. I keep getting error 12014 when trying to download the easygen updates
Your updater is out of date, you will need to download and install the latest updater from here

Extract the contents of the zip file to your easyGen directory
(this is normally c:Program Files Symbiant easyGen 2.3 )

Please note this updater is for easyGen 2.3 only, DO NOT use it with a different version of easyGen.

Plug-ins
  1. How do I get the plug-in
To purchase a plug in go to www.easygen.com/plugins when you purchase the download link is displayed at the end of the sale on the thank you page.

If you have purchased a plug-in and lost the link to download it or didn't see it you can have the link emailed to you by entering the email address you used when you purchased the plug-in at http://www.easygen.com/plugins/reminder

  2. The Plug-in Gives an error or won't install
You need to be using the latest version of easyGen and the latest plug-ins, if you get an error installing a plug-in the chances are it's due to version differences. Make sure you version of easyGen is 2.3 or greater (also see upgrading) to check your version number click on Help then about easyGen.

Then install the latest plug-ins. To get up to date plug-ins go to http://www.easygen.com/plugins/reminder

Trouble Shooting
  1. Any Problem
If you experience any problem with easyGen first make sure your copy of easyGen is the latest version (currently 2.4) and is up to date as we immediately put an update online whenever a problem is identified.

Your may also need to update your windows software as the problem could be something to do with a Microsoft component. To Run windows update see Installing
    [Back to top]

  2. If you purchased easyGen on CD or a boxed copy
If you purchased the CD version of easyGen, and are having problems installing and if the CD cover says Version 2.1 then go to our Download Site and install the latest version which is now 2.4 You can still use the serial number on the CD case to register and unlock 2.4.

If you have already registered your 2.1 version you need to upgrade see the upgrade page

You can also install the Microsoft .NET framework 1.1 from the 2.1 CD just browse the CD and execute the file "dotnetfx.exe"

For more help on registering see The Training Centre

  3. The automatic updater has stalled or will not work
If the "check for updates" will not work make sure your firewall allows access to the easygen updater

Also make sure you have the latest download of easyGen installed current version is 2.4

  4. The links to existing projects and creating new projects on the start page don't work since I upgraded to IE 7.
This is a bug in the IE7 internal HTML handling that no longer recognises page jumps as valid links. Unfortunately it appears that this "new functionality" is here to stay. If you are an IE7 user please download the easyGen patch here.

To install this patch, simply extract the contents of the zip file to your easyGen installation directory (it will replace the existing easyGen2.exe file).

Please make sure you are logged into Windows with full administrational privileges before attempting to install this patch.

  5. Can not register easygen or access webpages via easyGen
The most common reason for not being able to register is your comuter is either not connected to the internet or a firewall is blocking easyGen

First make sure you are connected to the internet and then make sure any firewall software you have installed allows easyGen access.

  6. There is no start page or the start page is blank
This problem only occurs on easyGen 2.1 so please upgrade to the latest version (click here to upgrade)
  7. When I try to open a project or new project I get about:blank#xxxxxxxxxx
This only occurs with version 2.1 so please upgrade to the latest version (click here to upgrade)
  8. I can not open a project or see pages in a project
Your Project Explorer window has probably become lost or hidden
Click on Reset Layout found under the Window Menu.

This will reset the layout so you can see the project explorer window
    [Back to top]

  9. I get a WMI error each time I start easyGen (XP users only)!
Download the latest version of easyGen to resolve this
    [Back to top]
  10. Whenever I click a link on the start page I get a message saying I am not connected to the internet!
Make sure you're connected to the internet when you start easyGen.

If you are connected to the internet then first ensure that if you have a software firewall you have given easyGen "allow" permissions or if behind a LAN proxy server, enter the details for this in the easyGen options screen (Tools > Options, and click the LAN button), you will need to restart easyGen for these changes to take effect.

If non of the above applies then open Internet Explorer (IE) and under the Tools menu select Internet Options and make sure the settings are correct in Connections. Sometimes just opening IE will solve this problem.

  11. My layout has changed or I have lost some windows
Just click on Reset Layout under the Window menu
    [Back to top]
  12. I can not connect to a database
If you are trying to connect to a server based database make sure you are connected to the internet and you have the correct privileges set on your database and username. Try our demo database and see if you get a problem there.  See databases for more information and help

  14. Performance counters not enabled
Some users may get an error message saying performance counters not enabled. This is an issue with microsoft .NET and is something that should really be resolved by contacting Microsoft. However, from experience their support is next to useless on this issue and they appear to know little about it, even though it's a MS issue. SO we have put up this to help users but must stress you do this at your own risk. If it goes wrong, in any way we will not be held responsible.

Open up the Registry Editor by going to the start menu, selecting Run..., then type regedit.exe, and then click the OK button. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesPerfProcPerformance. If the category has been disabled you will see a value "Disable Performance Counter" and to enable this category just remove this value.

Please remember you do the above at your own risk, if you are unsure about doing this or not willing to accept liability if it goes wrong contact Microsoft support and take it up with them.
